2015 Concours 14 - first ride Preview
Sometimes, a bit of news can be almost useless as big news. Kawasaki was thought, at least, of the 2015 Concours 14. "Connie" motor to the eighth season endowed with only a few relatively minor upgrades. This means it has never been substantially changed since an update in 2010. Overall, in fact, is still very much a basic Concours same machine when it launched in 2008.
So, while the competitor brand over the years cranking sport-tourers ever more sophisticated - with features such as electronic suspension, multi-level mode strength, GPS Receiver, AM / FM / MP3 / iPod system, heated seats and more voices - Concours pretty much keep the status quo, do not even offer cruise control.
Fair criticism, said management Kawasaki, but all the features cost money, which have been sent asking price for the more lavishly equipped sport-tourers soaring into the sky. Concours, meanwhile, is not only the most expensive bike ST large, 2015 version goes for just $ 15.499, $ 700 less than last year's model. That is, firm feel, offering riders the chance to have a great, very fast and very capable sport-tourer for considerable savings, in some cases, thousands more than some of the more expensive models.
Given that most MSRPs either remained the same or increased every year, a decrease in the price of $ 700 was a real surprise, especially given that the 2015 Connie incorporates several improvements. It includes six percent lower teeth are meant to make the dead-stop getaways easier, especially on steep uphills with passengers aboard. The rear suspension was a little stiff to better cope with the burden of two-up, full-saddle, and braking systems are linked using a new ABS module that reduces the amount of bite of the front brakes when applied to the rear brakes. Molded seat back and covered with anti-slip material; and though the windshield is not greater than before, now includes three positions (two open, one closed), manually adjustable ventilation claim to lessen the blow around the rider's head.
As I learned when riding a new bike during the introduction of the new 2015 Kawasaki Concours press 14, ventilation does work as advertised. With the electrically adjustable windshield at the highest setting and ventilation in one position open, turbulence and noise around my helmet dramatically reduced, making the cockpit living space that is much more fun on higher speed roads. Plus, ventilation also reduces the amount of water sprinkled on my faceshield when riding in the rain.
I made a second discovery because on a day trip press, Southern California received the first significant rainfall in the month. Rain throughout the day is a welcome relief in this drought-stricken country, but it prevents me from them came with a decent assessment of some of the Concours' other upgrades. I feel that the lower teeth is a definite improvement, although I never carry passengers during the trip. Riding solo also prevents am having the desired effect of the rear suspension recalibrated. I do feel that the use of the rear brake is normal with a new braking system linked to a lack of front-caliper applications, but does not allow the wet road behind even remotely aggressive - or front - braking before the ABS kick in. The circle of chairs wet all day does not allow me to evaluate the revised chair or anti-slip cover. Not doing a full-strength weather permits cornering or acceleration WFO. All of this will have to wait until we get a unit test for the evaluation of a more realistic and complete.
But as far as overall performance goes, expect no surprises. Let us not forget that, despite the relative lack of facilities rider, this is the same bike with variable valve-a full-time, 1, 352cc, 133-horsepower, sneaky-fast machine that has been providing consistent power, ceaselessly since 2008; "Just turn the handle and you are directly in the path of Check" we used to say in the test Concours. It has a predictable, comprising equal treatment has inspired great confidence since the start of the bike rider. And it is the same bike that won multiple comparisons sport-touring and three straight (2008, '09, '10) Sport-Tourer best awards in the best competition in the world's ten annual cycle.
So, no, 2015 Concours 14 does not have all the bells and whistles many of its competitors. But it also does not have a price tag that goes with them. What there is a lot of performance for not much money.
